Fight Preview

We’re talking about Marlon “Chito” Vera‘s previous loss which broke a sequence of four consecutive victories. His last three fights were all five rounds each, so this will be his first fight in three rounds since 2021. In his last five bouts, 36-year-old Pedro “The Young Punisher” Munhoz is a disappointing 2-2-1. All but one of Munhoz’s last five fights have gone the distance. That one fight ended in a no-contest because of an eye poke.

There is much evidence of Vera’s power and panache at this point in his career. Vera usually loses the first round of a fight, whether it’s a three-rounder or a five-rounder, since he “downloads” his opponent and lowers his volume. Petr Yan and Israel Adesanya aren’t the only top-tier competitors to adopt this strategy.

The first five minutes are crucial for gaining an understanding of the opponent’s patterns, openings, and weaknesses. Vera battles with pinpoint accuracy, devastating power, and an unrelenting drive to win once the download is complete.

When fighting, Vera typically stands tall, keeping a high and tight guard and using quick, powerful bursts of movement. He’s got a tremendous head kick and strong hands, making him a formidable Muay Thai fighter. Because of his ability to, and propensity for, scoring exciting knockout victories, Vera is arguably the most dangerous fighter in the division.

As was mentioned before, the main problem is that he frequently fights from a position of weakness. In a three-round fight, Vera must either be flawless for the next two rounds or find the finish because he usually loses round 1 while gathering his reads.

And yet, Pedro Munhoz keeps going, despite the battles, the years, and the fact that he competes in one of the most competitive weight classes in mixed martial arts. He has built a reputation for toughness and longevity in his field. Munhoz’s opponent would better be prepared for battle regardless of who he encounters, the opponent’s fighting style, or the circumstances of the fight. Every time Munhoz enters the ring, he follows the same game plan.

When it comes to speed, power, and durability, Munhoz usually comes out on top. His problems arise when his opponents are able to exploit his predictable and linear movement and striking with superior footwork or counterattack.
