RB Leipzig aims to secure their third consecutive domestic triumph following the international hiatus as they host Koln at the Red Bull Arena for a Bundesliga encounter on Saturday evening. Despite remaining unbeaten at home this season, Die Roten Bullen will face a Koln side that is still in pursuit of their first away win.
RB Leipzig experienced a dip in performance prior to the international break, despite managing a commendable 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich and a 3-1 loss to the reigning Champions League winners, Manchester City, they then settled for a goalless draw against VfL Bochum. However, they have bounced back with consecutive victories against SV Darmstadt 98 and Red Star Belgrade.
Koln, following a series of disappointing performances in their first seven Bundesliga matches, managed to break their winless streak and achieve their first victory of the season. Their 3-1 triumph over Borussia Monchengladbach at home marked a significant turning point for the team, as they had previously endured their worst start to a top flight campaign in the squads history.
As for team news, Leipzig’s defender Willi Orban, continues to be out of action due to a knee injury he suffered while representing Hungary on international duty. However, there is some positive news as he has started his individual training sessions once again. Alongside Orban, two other players, El Chadaille Bitshiabu (MCL tear) and Timo Schlieck (knee), are also currently receiving treatment for their respective injuries.
Baumgart has confirmed that Koln’s goalkeeper, Philipp Pentke, has been discharged from the hospital following treatment for a knee injury he suffered during training. Additionally, the veteran will be accompanied on the sidelines by Jacob Christensen, who is dealing with a muscle issue, as well as Jan Thielmann and Noah Katterbach, both of whom are nursing knee injuries.
Even though Leipzig has shown clear weaknesses against top of the table sides, the Bulls are clear favorites for this matchup, especially if Openda continues to produce incredible soccer highlights similar to his previous matches.
