Before playing Chelsea this weekend, the Magpies had only prevailed in a single top-flight match in a month, losing two straight to Borussia Dortmund; yet, that one victory came over title-chasing Arsenal. Eddie Howe’s team won 4-1, making their Champions League comeback with renewed confidence. Alexander Isak started the scoring on Tyneside, but the visitors equalized halfway through the opening half. Jamaal Lascelles, Joelinton, and Anthony Gordon added further goals to complete the triumph. Despite their most recent 2-0 loss in Germany, Newcastle is only 3 points below Group F leaders Dortmund. However, to advance to the round of 16, they will probably have to win both of their remaining matches.
