In preparation for their Tuesday match at the Stadio Olimpico, Lazio and Celtic are returning to business in the UEFA Champions League.
Celtic’s prospects of making it to the Champions League knockout stages for the initial time since 2012–13 are in shambles after they lost every one of their group matches. Lazio enters Tuesday’s match in a disappointed tone after losing 2-1 to Salernitana over the weekend, blowing a halftime advantage. Maurizio Sarri’s team now sits in 10th position with a very meager 17 points after 13 Serie A games. When Ciro Immobile converted his penalty shot during the 43rd minute to make him the initial player to rack up 100 goals on the road in Serie A, they appeared to be well-prepared for a victorious trip to Salerno. But Salernitana’s Grigoris Kastanos equalized the score inside 10 minutes following the restart, and Antonio Candreva, a former Lazio player, scored the game-winning goal to sentence the Biancocelesti to their 6th Serie A loss of the year and extend their league losing streak to three games. Lazio is on the verge of making it to the Champions League knockout stages after earning 7 points during their 4 group stage games, despite their disappointing domestic record.
