On Monday night, in the final game of Round 3 of the Spanish La Liga, Rayo Vallecano takes on Atletico Madrid. Rayo currently sits atop the standings, a position previously held only by Atletico.

We must accept that this team has some significant weaknesses. While the defense looked solid in their last two games, we saw them battle to protect the net throughout the preseason.
Last weekend in Sevilla, Atletico Madrid had a difficult time against Betis. A goalless draw in a physically and mentally taxing encounter for both units has to be considered a success for Simeone’s squad.
They started off the La Liga season with a 3-1 win at home against Granada, who they had previously beaten easily. In the preseason, we witnessed that Simeone didn’t slow down the tempo when his team had the lead.
Atletico has gone 14 games without losing to Rayo, with the vast majority of those games ending in wins for the home team. In the 2022/23 season, Rayo and Wanda Metropolitan played to a 1-1 draw, with Atletico coming out on top in the rematch by a score of 1-2.
