Preview & Analysis: Granada vs Sevilla 12-19-2023

Game Preview

The 2023–24 La Liga season is back in motion this week with a crucial meeting between Granada and a faltering Sevilla team on Tuesday at the Estadio los Carmenes.

After Saturday’s 3-0 home loss to Getafe, Sevilla decided to fire Alonso as head coach, only 9 weeks after he was hired. The 48-year-old was named manager on October 10th; but, in his 14 games in charge, he only achieved 2 victories and 7 losses. As a result, Sevilla is currently looking for a new head coach. There is no denying that the team’s season has been utterly dismal; last week’s 2-1 Champions League defeat to Lens eliminated them from the competition entirely. In contrast, Los Nervionenses have only gained one point from their most recent 4 league games, leaving them tied for 18th place in the standings in 16th place with 13 points from Cadiz. This season, Sevilla has only won two times in La Liga, and they could be demoted from Spain’s top division for the very first time after the 1999–2000 season.

Granada has played in 17 La Liga games so far this season, with one victory, five ties, and eleven defeats. With 8 points, they are now ranked 19th in the standings. Jorgen Strand Larsen scored the game’s lone goal in the 20th minute to give Alexander Medina’s team a 1-0 loss over the Sky Blues on Friday. The team is currently 5 points below 17th-place Celta. After being promoted last season, Granada’s only league victory came against Mallorca at home at the conclusion of August. Now, they could return back to the Segunda Division. It is safe to state that Sevilla is not in the best shape going into this match because the Andalusian team defeated Sevilla 1-0 in the previous season’s matchup between the two teams. Additionally, they have not lost at home against Tuesday’s opponents since August 2018.
