Game Preview

Game 2 of a 3-game series between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the San Diego Padres will take place at Petco Park on Tuesday July 25. Rich Hill, a left-handed starting pitcher for the Pirates, will face Blake Snell, another southpaw starting for the Padres.

On Monday evening, the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the San Diego Padres 8-4 thanks to 4 home runs from Carlos Santana and 2 two-run blasts from Yu Darvish. For the Pittsburgh Pirates, both Liover Peguero and Jack Suwinski each contributed a 2-run drive. For the first time in his professional career, Ha-Seong Kim drove 2 home runs for San Diego.

The Pirates are now fifth within the NL Central thanks to a 44-56 record through 100 matches this year. The group now holds a 10-20-2 record after taking part in 32 different sets. The Pirates now have a home record of 23-26 and an away record of 21-30.

Rich Hill, who was initially scheduled for Game 1 of this series, is scheduled to play for the Pirates in the second game. Hill received a second day of repose, and Quinn Presiter took the mound in its place. The previous Wednesday, he pitched versus Cleveland for 5.2 innings, surrendering 4 runs on 8 hits and a single walk while striking out just one batter. This had no impact on the decision.

The Padres are now fourth within the NL West with an overall 48-53 record going into this contest. But they have a 2-game winless streak right now. San Diego has a 13-15-4 record thus far this year after 32 games. The Padres now have a home record of 25-24 and an away record of 23-29.

Blake Snell will start game two of this series for San Diego. The previous Thursday, he started and was unsuccessful after giving up a single run in 5 innings versus the Blue Jays while giving up 5 hits and 7 walks. He had trouble with his command, but he still got 4 strikeouts. Snell was able to keep the Blue Jays just one run throughout the course of 5 innings, but his brief stay on the mound was cut short by his season-high 7 walks. In 4 starts in July, Snell has only given up a single run, bringing his ERA for the year down to 2.67.
