After traveling to Toronto and Tampa Bay, the Yankees are heading back home, where they’ll face the Houston Astros for the first encounter of their four-game series. Right now, the Yankees are on a 14-game home winning streak, May 23rd was the last time they lost at their stadium, and it was a 6-4 loss against the Baltimore Orioles.
There is a lot of history between these two teams, and right now, they are looking like one of the strongest in the MLB. Even if they haven’t looked as dominant as the Yankees, the Astros have a similar lead in the American League West division, holding a 43-25 overall record. They’ve also been performing well as of recently, winning 7 of their last 9 games.
The New York Yankees will open things up by sending Jameson Taillon as their starting pitcher, who is making his 14th start of the season. He carries a lot of heat with his 8-1 record and a 2.70 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP over 73.1 innings pitched. We last saw Taillon on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays, when he gave up 4 hits and 2 walks over 5.2 scoreless innings to give the Yankees a 4-0 victory.
On the other side, Framber Valdez will be the one starting for the Houston Astros. Throughout 13 starts, Valdez holds a 7-3 record with a 2.78 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP over 81 innings pitched. The 28-year-old lefty was last seen on the mound on Friday, when he picked up the win against the Chicago White Sox after going 6 innings and allowing 3 runs on 8 hits and striking out 7 while walking none.
This is turning out to be one of the most exciting series we’ve seen in quite a while as the pitching matchups throughout the whole thing look very interesting, and this opening game is for sure going to deliver a lot of action.
