Two NL East clubs are continuing their series in an effort to win another game. Tuesday night’s second game of a four-game series between the Miami Marlins and the Atlanta Braves will be played in Atlanta.
 
On Sunday afternoon, Miami had a chance to defeat the Guardians, but they were unable to do it. As of Monday, the Marlins had an overall record of 12-10 and were in third place in the NL East, two games behind the Braves, who were in first place in the division.
 
On Sunday, they had eight hits, but Jorge Soler was the only one with multiple hits (he went three for three). Jon Bert and Avisail Garcia each blasted long balls in the Marlins’ defeat.

With Trevor Rogers on the IL with a biceps issue, the Marlins are scheduled to call up Bryan Hoeing from Triple-A Jacksonville of the International League to make his season debut. Hoeing has appeared in four games for Jacksonville this season, starting three of them.

Atlanta lost their fourth straight game as their bullpen failed them once more in the series finale against the Astros at home on Sunday. As they aim to get back on track, the Braves opened Monday with a half-game lead over the Mets in the NL East. Atlanta struggled at the plate against Houston on Sunday, mustering only three hits, yet led 2-0 after seven innings before crumbling.
 
In a losing effort, Kevin Pillar hit his first home run of the season for the Braves. Despite throwing 6.2 scoreless frames, Max Fried was not included in the decision: he allowed three hits, three walks, and five strikeouts. A.J. Minter (1-2) was given the loss in relief after giving up three runs on three hits, one walk, and three strikeouts in one inning.
