Royals Analysis: Coming from a series loss
After a lackluster 2-4 start to the season, there were some whispers that Kansas City would be a dark horse contender for capturing the A.L. Central this time around, but those people have since gone silent. This season, Kansas City has faced the Twins and Orioles in two series, losing both times by a margin of two games to one. In the most recent match, they lost to Baltimore in a rubber match. Will Smith was given the loss after missing a save in the ninth, and the game ended in a 4-3 score. Smith is out from the bullpen and is 0–2. In the seventh inning, Maikel Garcia hit a solo home run, and Salvador Perez brought in two runs. In the opening game on Thursday, Seth Lugo will get the ball; this will be his 2nd start of this season.
White Sox Analysis: Have only won 1 game
Chicago had low hopes for the forthcoming campaign, therefore a 1-4 beginning to the new year is not too shocking. The White Sox began the season with a 3-0 sweep at the hands of the Tigers, and after Wednesday’s series finale was postponed due to rain, they shared a series against the Braves (1-1). Chicago’s lone victory of the season, a 3-2 victory over Atlanta, came the previous time out. Pitcher Garrett Crochet had a strong outing, pitching 7 innings while giving up just one earned run. He pitched a winning game, striking out 8 batters. In terms of offense, Andrew Vaughn’s RBI single during the bottom of the eighth inning proved to be crucial since the bullpen required the extra run to maintain the advantage. On Thursday, Michael Soroka will take the mound and make his 2nd start of the season.
