Marlins Analysis: They are starting A.J. Puk
To start the series, A.J. Puk will make his 4th start of the year. Puk spent the previous season as a bullpen pitcher, but the Marlins are now testing his effectiveness as a starter. In his debut, the left-hander pitched poorly, giving up 4 runs. Despite taking the loss, he pitched well his previous outing, limiting the Yankees to just two runs (one earned) in 4.2 innings. Over the course of the season, Puk has given up 10 runs (seven earned) in 10.2 innings. In his brief career against the Cubs, the veteran has given up three runs (two earned). Miami completed a 2-4 homestand before heading out on the road. The Marlins are looking for their season’s first series victory.

Despite having a 2-3 record at the end of the season, Taillon averaged 5.2 innings per start, which improved the bullpen’s effectiveness and saved a ton of arms for later in the game, very important for this squad.
