In this game, the Phillies ought to be able to generate some offensive momentum. Patrick Corbin, who can get quite heated, is the opponent they face. Against the Cincinnati Reds, Corbin gave up 4 runs on 7 hits, including 2 home runs, in his first start. He did not last more than 5 innings either. Philadelphia should be able to see the ball well and start to build momentum in this game because of their excellent offense. Last week, Aaron Nola did not get off to a strong start. I wouldn’t anticipate that to occur again, though. In the one game he threw versus Washington the previous season, he struck out 6 batters while giving up one run on 5 hits.
Nationals Analysis: They just lost by 3 runs
Although Patrick Corbin might be a touch hittable at times, he had a strong season pitching against the Phillies. Although he did walk 7 in his one appearance against them last season, he did not give up an earned run in 5 innings of work. In this game, Corbin also needs to be at the top of his game. Against the Braves last week, Nola gave up 7 runs, 2 home runs, and eleven hits. Although the Braves’ lineup is superior to the Nationals’, it is never easy to bounce back from a start like that. Early in the count, the Nationals must hit and apply pressure. The Nationals are going to capitalize and get a good performance if Nola has another poor start.
