Game Preview

Today, two American League teams close out a wraparound weekend series in the Twin Cities. The Texas Rangers are on the road as they play the Minnesota Twins in the finale of a four-game series Monday night. In the first two games of the series, Minnesota won the opener by a 2-1 score Friday night before Texas earned a 4-3 win in 10 innings Saturday to square things up. Now the Rangers are looking to close out the series with a win after picking up a dominating 7-0 victory yesterday.

The Texas Rangers have been an average offensive team up to this point as they are currently tied with the San Diego Padres for 18th in the majors with a .699 team OPS while averaging 4.45 runs per game. Second baseman Marcus Semien has been doing decent as he has a .696 OPS with 19 home runs and 61 RBI while swiping 19 bases. He’s struggled throughout his last 15 games as he has a four homers, nine RBI, and 12 runs record in that stretch.

The Minnesota Twins have been doing pretty well as they are ninth in the sport with a .731 team OPS while scoring 4.43 runs per game this year. Shortstop Carlos Correa has been doing well this season as he has a .772 OPS with 14 home runs and 39 RBI while also scoring 50 runs as of this writing. Minnesota is currently in a tough position, especially after losing the way they did yesterday, and if they want to split the series they’ll have to play their best.

Texas is sending out Cole Ragans to the mound, making this his 4th start of the season and the first time he pitches against the Twins in his career. He is holding a 0-2 record with a 5.02 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP over 14.1 innings pitched while striking out 7. Minnesota replies back with Sonny Gray, who is making his 19th start of the season. The 32-year-old carries a 7-3 record with a 3.11 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP over 89.2 innings pitched while striking out 89.
