On Tuesday, May 30th at the Dodger Stadium, Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers meet up in an intriguing matchup that promises many surprises. This will be the second game of a three-game series between them. While Washington are struggling at the bottom of National League East and also last in the National League, Los Angeles leads NL West by two games. They also stand in 1st place in the National League with a record of 33-22 overall.
The Nationals were on the heels of a two-game win against Kansas City Royals over the weekend and had an opportunity to secure their first three-game winning streak of the season, but were foiled in the ninth inning by Kansas City Royals’ offense. This marks only the second time since 2022 that they failed to sweep any series they’ve played in.
With that in mind, the Nationals will send Jake Irvin out onto the mound on Tuesday in hopes that he can pull them out of their current slump. Over his past five starts, Irvin has allowed 15 runs in 22 innings pitched. They hope his ERA can improve against Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers will send out Tony Gonsolin for another outing, with a record of 2-1, an ERA of 1.82, a WHIP of.91 and 23 strikeouts. Gonsolin earned himself another start and hopes to continue building off that success while helping keep their lead in the NL West division.
The Dodgers won the first game of the series with a 6-1 victory on Monday night thanks to another great performance from Bobby Miller and a 3 run home run by J.D. Martinez.
With just a single 3 game winning streak throughout the entire season and not a single series sweep, the Nationals have struggled to put together winning streaks of any size. The Nationals lineup features some powerful power hitters and is one of the league’s best in batting average, joined in third with an average of .264.
