In a repeat of the Eastern Conference Finals from the previous season, the Miami Heat will play the Boston Celtics on Friday, October 27th with the goal of improving to 2-0 on the early campaign. The game will take place at TD Garden in Boston.
The season began on Wednesday with a victory for Joe Mazzulla’s team, as they defeated the Knicks 108-104 at MSG. MVP candidate Jayson Tatum was outstanding in the first game of the campaign. The small forward finished the match with 34 points on 13-22 shooting. With his additional 11 rebounds, he became the lone Celtic player to record a double-double. In his Boston debut, rookie Kristaps Porzingis also shone, dishing up 30 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. He also had 4 blocks.
When the Boston Celtics traded guard Marcus Smart, possibly the team’s best player, to the Washington Wizards in exchange for the frequently injured Kristap Porzingis, there were many doubters during the summer. Even though opinions on the deal as a whole may still be divided, Porzingis stunned the Celtics Nation with his play on the first night of play.
After edging the Pistons 103-102 at home on Wednesday, the Miami Heat are going to be looking to extend their winning streak to 2 games at the beginning of the year. Leading the squad in scoring with 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists was Bam Adebayo. Jimmy Butler followed with 19 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 assists, and Tyler Herro finished with 16 points on 7 of 24 shots.
Miami had a solid record in close games the previous season, going 14-8 in those decided by 3 points or fewer. This continued into the postseason, when the Heat defeated teams with stronger rosters like Milwaukee and Boston, for example, en route to winning the Eastern Conference.
