Analysis & Prediction: Nets vs Suns 12/13-2023

Game Preview

On Wednesday, the Brooklyn Nets take on the Phoenix Suns in their opening game of the season. It will represent the first time the two clubs have faced one another since Durant’s trade in February of this year, assuming Durant is well and available.

Devin Booker scored 32 points in the Suns’ recent 119-116 victory against the Golden State Warriors at home, which was significant because Phoenix was missing Kevin Durant. The Suns made 45.2% of their field goals and 35.9% of their three-pointers, while the Warriors made 44.6% and 34.8% of theirs. Every one of the starting five scored in double digits, Bradley Beal scored 16 points in his initial appearance back after missing a month due to injury, and Jusuf Nurkic recorded a double-double with 17 points as well as 13 rebounds. This season, the Suns are ranked 13th in opponents’ point total and 12th in their own. Durant, who leads the NBA in scoring with 31 points per game, has been classified as day-to-day due to an ankle issue.

In their previous game, the Nets were on a road trip and let the Sacramento Kings defeat them 131-118 while setting a new franchise mark for 3-pointers made. Despite having a respectable field goal percentage of 47.7% as well as a 3-point FG percentage of 48.3%, they gave up 51.1% and 55.6% (25–45) of the Kings’ deep shots. With 22 points alongside 20 points respectively, Mikal Bridges and Cam Thomas paced Brooklyn. Brooklyn is currently ranked 8th in the league in points scored per game and nineteenth in points allowed to opponents. After scoring 74 points in the two games prior, Bridges with 23.1 points per game is the team’s top scorer and has scored 43 points in the past two games. With just 13 games played so far this season, Thomas, with 23.4 points per match, has scored 37 points in his previous two games while failing to shoot above 38.1% in both of them.
