On Wednesday night, the Charlotte Hornets will travel to Washington, D.C., to play the Wizards at Capital One Arena. The Hornets are in 14th place in the Eastern Conference, while Washington is in 12th place after dropping three straight games. In their three meetings this season, Washington has won twice and Charlotte has covered in two of those.
Despite being out for more than a month, LaMelo Ball leads the team with 23.3 points, 8.1 assists, and 5.9 rebounds per game. Clearly, Charlotte’s poor performance this season is largely a result of Ball’s absence. The other two Hornets with averages of more than 20 points per game are Terry Rozier and Kelly Oubre, Jr.
Charlotte has seen some injuries this season and has a 15-40 record as a result. Following surgery earlier this month, Oubre, Jr. will be sidelined until at least mid-February. Meanwhile, with a team-best average of 12.3 points and 9.7 rebounds per game, Mason Plumlee is just shy of a double-double.
Now looking at the Wizards and Rui Hamichura being traded, the Wizards have a lot of minutes to make up for from the bench. Will Barton, who was averaging the second-highest number of minutes off the bench, will probably move up to the sixth position.
Bradley Beal is the team’s scoring leader with 22.4 points per game and comes in second with 5.1 assists. With 22.4 points, Kristaps Porzingis is tied for top on the team. He also has the most rebounds (8.6) and blocks (1.6) per game. Porzingis has a field goal percentage of 47.6.
The Lakers’ lone player acquired in exchange for Hamichura was Kendrick Nunn, who averaged 6.7 points this year while playing little after missing all of last season due to a knee ailment. Nunn has played more minutes in his six games with Washington, averaging 9.2 points per game.
