Game Preview

Joel Embiid called it: the Miami Heat need another superstar. That was more than clear in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference final, in which Miami scored only 80 points. Kyle Lowry shooting 0-for-6 and Max Strus shooting 0-for-9 had a lot to do with it. Bam Adebayo was the team’s top scorer with 18 points.

As for the Boston Celtics, who ended up scoring 93 points to win and take a 3-2 lead, Jaylen Brown led the way with 25 points. He was followed by Jason Tatum with 22. Having Marcus Smart (ankle) back on the floor was huge for Boston. Besides being a great defensive player, Smart is also a born leader. Robert Williams III has also made a huge difference for Boston. He contributed 10 rebounds and three blocks.

Now, Boston has a huge opportunity to seal the deal at home. That’s right, Game 6 will be at TD Garden, where the Celtics are 13-5 in their last 18 games. That’s a huge reason for them to dominate the NBA odds at -400. Regarding the spread, at -8.5, Miami is 11-4 in its last 15 games when playing on the road against Boston.

“It’s an elimination game, to have it on our home court is an advantage. They beat us there already. So, we have to come out with the same urgency after these last two wins and try to put it away,” Celtics’ head coach Ime Udoka said.

If the Heat want to stand a chance, Lowry must play a lot better. Tyler Herro (groin), who missed the last two games, remains questionable. Having him back would be huge. Last but not least, Jimmy Butler must play better defense. He has been great when it comes to scoring, but not so much when it comes to stopping the charge.

Being an elimination game, you can expect fireworks. Plus, the total has gone over in 10 of the last 15 meetings between these two. The total for Friday night is set at 201 points.

If necessary, Game 7 is scheduled for Sunday night at FTX Arena.
