The Minnesota Timberwolves go against the Denver Nuggets in a Western Conference clash at the Target Center in Minneapolis. The Nuggets had a stellar beginning to the season and currently have a 4-0 record having beaten the Lakers, Grizzlies, Thunder and Jazz all pretty convincingly. They currently sit atop the Western Conference along with the only other undefeated team in its category, the Dallas Mavericks. The Timberwolves sit 1-2 at the moment, with a victory against the Heat but a defeat to the Raptors in their opening game and one against the Hawks in their latest games.
Losing to the Raptors sets a bad precedent for Minnesota but oddsmakers don’t have them as much as underdogs as the Raptors are in their game. The explanation may be in the numbers here. While the Nuggets have been great, Jokic scores an average 26.5 points per game while Anthony Edwards is at 25.3, much closer than one would think just looking at the records of these teams. Rudy Gobert is rated at 13.3 rebounds per game versus the 12.3 of Jokic and while Jokic does have a significant edge in the assists department to Anthony Edwards, it does seem like they’re pretty evenly matched based on individual player stats.
There’s also a notion that the Nuggets have to let go of a game sooner rather than later to prepare for bigger opponents, albeit their interest in having a 5-0 start to the season. The Timberwolves, on the other hand, really want to reach 0.5 by evening out their record, matching teams such as the Suns, Lakers and Spurs, all of which are pretty strong and will be coming up in their schedules.
