On Monday, October 30th, at Scotiabank Arena, the Portland Trail Blazers (0-3) will take on the Toronto Raptors (1-2) in an attempt to snap a losing streak of 3 games.
In their most recent game on Saturday, the Raptors were defeated 114-107 by the 76ers. In the defeat, Scottie Barnes scored a team-high 24 points. In their most recent game on Sunday, the Trail Blazers lost to the 76ers 126-98. In the defeat, Shaedon Sharpe scored a team-high 20 points.
Since Damian Lillard was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks just over a month ago, second-year guard Shaedon Sharpe has been guiding Portland in the first few games of the campaign. With an average of 19.3 points per match, the twenty-year-old Canadian ranks just behind Anfernee Simons (18) and Malcolm Brogdon (18.7). The lackluster performance of Blazers rookie PG Scoot Henderson, who is averaging only 7.3 points and 3 assists on a bone-chilling 33% shooting and a staggering 4.3 turnovers, has proven rather shocking. But it’s not merely the numbers; Henderson hasn’t yet been able to figure out why the youngster appears nervous and hurried on the court while playing.
Scottie Barnes has been leading the Raptors thus far after a summer that was highlighted by the departure of Fred VanVleet via free agency. Pascal Siakam, who only attempted 8 shot tries on the evening of Sunday, needs to give the Raptors even more. That’s not quite sufficient for an athlete of his quality. Siakam needs to get more engaged even though Toronto is emphasizing ball movement as well as a cooperative style more than before. Conversely, Scottie Barnes has appeared amazing so far this campaign. He’s been striving to establish himself while handling the ball nicely the entire time, except for a few turnover issues. Dennis Schroder, a summer acquisition, tops the Raptors having 27 assists so far and ranks #2 on the roster in terms of average point scoring of 15.7.
