76ers Analysis: They haven’t lost in 9 matches
After a season filled with ups and downs, the Philadelphia 76ers are currently ranked seventh and will take on the New York Knicks in the opening round of the playoffs. The squad was forced to play with 2023–24 for a significant chunk of the season. NBA MVP Joel Embiid and the squad had to contend with the Play-In Tournament in order to make it into the playoffs, having previously been vying for one of the top 3 conference seeds. With the Sixers behind the Miami Heat 51-38 at home at the half on Wednesday night, it looked like it might take more than one game to advance to the playoffs. But in the 2nd half, Embiid turned things around, scoring 11 of his 23 points in the 4th quarter to help the Sixers win 105-104.
Knicks Analysis: Coming off a 1-point OT win
The Sixers approached the first game of the Play-In Tournament as though it were the seventh game of a series, and the Knicks knew this. They wanted to win and avoid losing and maybe having to play the Celtics in the opening round. The Knicks are eager to play the Sixers beginning on Saturday because they have won 6 of their past 7 matches and five of their previous seven. They feel they can compete with anyone. Point guard Jalen Brunson leads the Knicks in assists per game, field goal shooting %, and scoring average of over 29 points per game. After Julius Randle was lost to injury two months ago, Brunson has given the Knicks club new life.
