On Thursday, two teams from the Eastern Conference will square off at Fiserv Forum. The Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers will play each other in their opening regular-season game. After finishing the previous season with 58 victories and the number one seed in the East, Milwaukee made a blockbuster trade in the offseason to acquire Damian Lillard. Joel Embiid helped Philadelphia win 54 games the previous season, but James Harden won’t be playing for the squad on Thursday.
Adrian Griffin took Mike Budenholzer’s place as coach of the Bucks over the summer. In order to partner with Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard was acquired by Milwaukee following their elimination in the first round of the 2022–2023 playoffs.
NBA fans will be watching Damian Lillard to see how he performs on a team that is fighting for a title. He is without a doubt the guy to watch. His averages during the final campaign he played for the Portland Trail Blazers were 32.2 points, 7.3 assists, with 4.8 rebounds. The seven-time All-Star’s signing strengthened the team’s bond with standout player Giannis Antetokounmpo, who expressed his gratitude to the organization by agreeing to a 3-year contract renewal.
Philadelphia is expected to be competitive in the league this season even if it may not be the best team in the East. In an attempt to bolster its core, the Sixers brought in Mo Bamba, Patrick Beverley, Danny Green, and Kelly Oubre this offseason.
Joel Embiid will once again be Philadelphia’s top man. Although the explosive big man, who finished the previous season with an average of 33.1 points with 10.2 rebounds, is one of the NBA’s most feared individuals, his supporting squad has to step up. This group won’t compete in the postseason without Harden because Tyrese Maxey and Tobias Harris aren’t backups on a team that wants to go to the Finals.
