On Wednesday, January 3rd, at Toyota Center, the Brooklyn Nets will travel to the Houston Rockets in an attempt to snap a three-game road losing streak.

Before putting a blow down on the Pistons on Monday evening at home in their last game, Houston had lost 3 games in a row and 6 of 8 overall. The Rockets are now 16-15 overall and sit 3rd within the Southwest Division, a pair of games below the Pelicans in first place. They were two games below Dallas for the last guaranteed postseason berth and 7.5 games below the Timberwolves for the top slot among the Western Conference playoff standings. To stay in the postseason picture, they were 1.5 matches clear of the Warriors. Houston opened the game against the Detroit Pistons on Monday up by 2 points at the end of the first period and by 4 at the half. In the third quarter, Houston blew the game wide open with a 47-25 lead, winning easily. Throughout the game, the Rockets caused 17 turnovers from Detroit and shot 56% from the floor, particularly 15 of 35 coming from three-point range. In the victory, Alperen Seguin of Houston paced the team with 26 points alongside 9 assists.

In an attempt to get on the right track, Brooklyn faced the Pelicans on Tuesday night, who had lost their previous three games. The Nets were 11.5 games below the Celtics for the highest slot within the Atlantic Division as of Tuesday, when they were 15–18 on the season. As of Tuesday, they were in 9th spot within the Eastern Conference, 1.5 games ahead of the Hawks in 11th place to secure a position in the play-in round, and 3.5 games below the Pacers for the final East guaranteed postseason berth. Brooklyn, which started Tuesday 2-3 facing the second contest of a back-to-back, has been outscored this season by 7 points per contest.
