Wednesday’s NCAA basketball game between the East Carolina Pirates and the South Carolina Upstate Spartans will take place at Minges Coliseum. Johnson contributed 5 rebounds and 13 points. The defense of East Carolina has performed admirably this season, ranking 32nd in the nation despite allowing an average of 62.0 points per game.
On the other hand, South Carolina Upstate lost each of its initial two difficult matches of the season. In their opening game, the Spartans faced South Carolina and lost 82-53 due to being outrebounded 45-27. Vanderbilt and USC Upstate squared off in game 2. The Spartans led at halftime 31–27, but they lost 74–67 in the second half. In the third match, USC Upstate triumphed over Carolina University for the first time. With a 50–28 lead at the half and a 56–20 surge in the last minutes, the Spartans easily won 106–48. The team was led by Ahmir Langlais, Nick Alves, and Justin Bailey, who each scored 14 points and pulled down 8 boards. The USC Upstate defense allowed an average of 68.0 points per match going into today’s match.
