Analysis & Prediction: Tennessee vs Purdue 11/21/2023

Game Preview

Game Preview

November 21st at the Allstate Maui Invitational in Honolulu, Tennessee Volunteers (4-0) and Purdue Boilermakers (4-0) square off in a semifinal match at Stan Sheriff Center.

After defeating Syracuse 73-56 in their most recent game, the Tennessee Volunteers are 4-0 on the season. Tennessee managed to score the final 12 points of the game to win, having only given up 25 scores in the 1st half. Josiah-Jordan James In his 5th season, has settled into a role and is doing admirably for Tennessee. Against Syracuse, the senior guard scored 15 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, but it wasn’t exactly his first good game. A Tennessee squad that plays similarly to the one that defeated Purdue in the NCAA Tournament’s first round last year will put Purdue’s reserve and young guards to the test. Tennessee is ranked just outside of the top 30 offensive teams going into the tournament, and they have the best defense in the nation.

The Purdue Boilermakers upset Gonzaga on Monday, 73-63, to move to 4-0 on the season. After trailing Gonzaga 35–30 at the half, Purdue outscored them 43–28 in the 2nd half to win. Throughout the game, Gonzaga’s free throw attempts were matched by the Boilermakers, who shot 46.7% from the field. It has been a very long time since they have dropped a regular season non-conference game. They have been outstanding over the whole 28-game streak that they have won in a non-conference regular season. Their excellent effective two-point % can be attributed to Zach Edey, the current national player of the year, who dominates in the paint. In 3 of the 4 games this season against Purdue, opponents have pulled down 12 or more offensive rebounds. Better work on the defensive boards is required of the Boilermakers. With transfer Lance Jones entering the court right away and two freshmen, Camden Heide and Myles Colvin, both of whom had brief sparks in their 1st Maui Invitational game, Purdue has also become speedier.
