The Lehigh Mountain Hawks and Syracuse Orange will meet today in college basketball action at the JMA Wireless Dome. The Lehigh Mountain Hawks are coming off a 13 win season, while the Syracuse Orange are coming off a 13 win season as well, however sadly for them is their lowest total since the 1981-82 season.
The Lehigh Mountain Hawks have won double digit games in 19 of their last 20 seasons in college basketball. Evan Taylor returns after averaging 13 points and 5.8 rebounds, while Keith Higgins Jr. averaged 9 points and 2.3 assists. As for consistency, Tyler Whitney-Sidney is a pillar for the team, playing in more than 600 minutes last season. The Lehigh Mountain Hawks are happy to receive their best player back in Taylor, but sadly they said goodbye to their next two top scorers in the squad. Higgins Jr. a sophomore who showed potential as a freshman last year, has a chance to break into stardom and help Lehigh push for better results. The Mountain Hawks will most likely remain a competitive side in the Patriot.
The Syracuse Orange enter the 47th season with coach Jim Boeheim at the helm. Joseph Girard III returns to the squad after averaging 13.8 points and 2.8 rebounds, while Jesse Edwards averaged 12 points and 6.5 rebounds. Syracuse recently lost 3 of its top 4 scorers from last season, while also losing a total of 9 players from last year’s squad as a whole. There’s going to be some adjustments going on in Onondaga County after such a drastic transfer season. Syracuse does bring in a lot of recruits into its system, including top recruits in Judah Mintz, Justin Taylor and Quadir Copeland to help the team find new talent.
The Syracuse Orange are obviously the more talented team as a whole, but they’re missing a lot of production due to their recent changes in squad, as such it might take some time to adjust into the new system. The Lehigh Mountain Hawks are more set in terms of players returning from the previous season, and this is obviously a bigger game for them in terms of motivation as an absolute underdog. This could be a tricky spot for Syracuse and a more competitive game than some people think, as such we take the shot with Lehigh this time around.
