Tuesday’s collegiate basketball game between the Michigan State Spartans and the Duke Blue Devils will take place at United Center.
In his 29th campaign as the head coach of the Michigan State men’s basketball team, Tom Izzo is returning. But things aren’t going as well as the Spartans had planned after they were humiliated in the first game on their own court. Sparty fell short of James Madison 79–76 in the season’s first meeting. In their last game, Michigan State defeated the Screaming Eagles 74-51, demonstrating their ability to recover from a setback. Tyson Walker carried the charge for the Spartans with 14 points, 4 assists, as well as 7 rebounds. Teammate guard Jaden Akins chipped in with 13 points, 7 boards, and 4 steals. With 11 points along with 10 rebounds from forward Mady Sissoko, MSU ran up a 23-point advantage at the half and won handily.
Now in his second season as the team’s head coach, Jon Scheyer has taken over the Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team from Coach Krzyzewski. Scheyer hopes to improve on a season in which his Blue Devils finished first during the ACC Tournament yet lost to Tennessee in the big dance’s 2nd round. This time around, Duke is off to a 1-1 start, having most recently lost to Arizona (78-73) after defeating Dartmouth (92-54). All night long, the Blue Devils pursued Arizona, gaining an initial lead, 54–52, in the second half. With 2:11 remaining in the game, Arizona embarked on a different 8-0 run until Duke made a last-ditch effort and claimed a 67-65 lead. After a back-and-forth between both groups, Arizona gained a 70-69 advantage with less than a minute remaining in the match and won it via free throws in the closing seconds. Leading the Blue Devils by scoring a career-high 25 points, sophomore Kyle Filipowski also grabbed 8 rebounds, while Jeremy Roach ended with 17 points.
