At UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse on December 8, the St. Peter’s Peacocks (3-4) square off against the Duquesne Dukes (6-2).
In their last game, the Peacocks defeated the Canisius Golden Griffins 54-52 to win their second straight game. With 10 points and 7 rebounds, senior guard Latrell Reid led the Peacocks in scoring and was the only member in double figures. St. Peter’s ranks 352nd in the nation with an average of only 61.6 points per game. Averaging 12.7 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, Michael Houge leads St. Peter’s in both scoring and rebounding. Duquesne defeated the Marshall Thundering Herd 85–72 on the road in Huntington, West Virginia. With 24 points, senior guard Jimmy Clark III paced all scorers in the contest while senior forward Andrei Savrasov chipped in with 14 points and 9 rebounds. After four games, the Dukes prevailed in three of them. Jimmy Clark III is the Duquesne team’s second-leading scorer and assist leader with an average of 16.0 points and 4.0 assists each game, behind Dae Dae Grant, who leads the team in points averaging 19.4 points per game and with an average of 7.1 rebounds per game, Fousseyni Drame leads the team on boards. Duquesne is scoring 77.6 points per game on average.
In this competition, having a lot of possessions is probably going to be important: With an average of 35.4 rebounds per game this season, St. Peter’s has been slamming the glass. Nonetheless, Duquesne has excelled in that area as well, averaging 38.2 points per game. It will be intriguing to see how their conflict develops in light of these opposing strengths.
