Picks & Predictions: Texas State vs Houston 12/21/2023

Game Preview

Game Preview

The 11-0 Houston Cougars from the BIG12 will host one of the final four unbeaten squads within the Sun Belt Conference, which includes the 6-5 Texas State Bobcats. The Cougars have a 4-1 series record and will play each other for the 6th time overall.

With an unblemished 11-0 record throughout the 2023–24 regular season, the Houston Cougars remain only two matches away from opening their inaugural Big 12 Conference campaign. At the Toyota Center in Houston on Saturday, the Houston Cougars beat the Texas A&M Aggies 70-66. Emanuel Sharp paced the Cougars with 21 points, which included the game’s last 5 points. L.J. Cryer, another guard, contributed 17 points, marking his tenth consecutive game with at least ten points. With 12 points and 8 assists, senior Jamal Shead enjoyed a good game as well. Forward J’Wan Roberts nearly recorded a triple-double but settled to a double-double of 10 points, 11 boards, and a career-high 7 assists. The Cougars made 43% from the floor overall, but Sharp once more stole the show because the sophomore guard performed like a seasoned pro.

On Thursday evening, the Texas State Bobcats attempt to upset the unbeaten Cougars by going into their den. The Bobcats, who defeated LeTourneau 110-68 at home on Monday night, will look to extend their winning run to three games. The Texas State shooting spree was the game’s main narrative. The Bobcats’ season-high shooting percentage of nearly 67% in the contest was their best since 2019. With three more blocks during the game, Brandon Love increased his team-leading total of blocks to 21 points, a career-high, on 10-of-13 shooting. Jordan Mason had an impressive day as well, scoring 18 points from 7 of 9 field goals. Dontae Horne scored 15 points from the bench, Dylan Dawson added 12 points, and Christian Turner added 10 points to round out the trio of players with double-figure scoring.
