On Thursday, the Gonzaga Bulldogs (13-5) will host the San Francisco Dons (15-5) for a thrilling matchup. The game is scheduled to start at 9 pm Eastern Time from McCarthey Athletic Center.
The San Francisco Dons have been spectators as the Gonzaga Bulldogs and Saint Mary’s Gaels have dominated the West Coast Conference for an extensive period of time. Over the last 21 seasons, Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s have claimed the West Coast Conference regular season championship every time.
It’s safe to say that the Gonzaga Bulldogs are not performing at their best. Surprisingly, Gonzaga is not guaranteed a spot in the NCAA Tournament this year, which is hard to believe but undeniably accurate. The team lacks a standout player who can dominate a game and significantly impact the roster from the get go. Additionally, their defense falls short of being elite compared to other sides. In an unexpected turn of events, San Francisco has a good chance of scoring a considerable number of points against Gonzaga.
The San Francisco Dons were technically favored in their highly anticipated home game against Saint Mary’s last Saturday. However, they suffered a devastating defeat, losing 77-60 to the Gaels. It may have seemed unreasonable to consider Saint Mary’s as strong favorites for that game, considering their inconsistent performance throughout the season. Nevertheless, the Gaels managed to secure a 17 point victory over USF in their away game.
Now is the time for San Francisco to push through and gather a convincing win against one of their direct championship rivals. Of course it is easier said than done, however we don’t expect Gonzaga’s offensive creativity to improve in such a short amount of time.
Overall, we do see a San Francisco squad capable enough to break a shaky Gonzaga, thus we give the edge to the Dons.
