Game Preview
On November 24 at The Palestra, the Lafayette Leopards (1-3), who have dropped their last three away games, will take on the Pennsylvania Quakers (3-2).
When Lafayette played Wilkes University, they were able to record their first victory. The Leopards won 69-53, scoring 34 points in the 1st half and another 35 points after that. Eric Sondberg led the way with his 16 points and 7 rebounds. Twelve points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists were contributed by Kyle Jenkins. On offense, though, The Leopards have been absolutely dreadful. The Leopards are shooting 38% from the field and 28% from three to score an average of 58 points per game. Despite some really terrible offensive results along the way, the Leopards lost their first 3 games of the season. Being reasonable, at that time Lafayette faced some formidable opponents in Saint Joseph’s, UCLA, and Pepperdine. They shot a pitiful 35.2%t from the floor and dropped the board battle 40-29 against the Waves.
The Quakers’ most recent game against MD Eastern Shore left them with a slight “big win hangover.” Despite playing close the entire way, Penn lost the game 83–80 in overtime. Leading the squad in scoring with 31 points and 3 rebounds was Clark Slajchert and Nick Spinoso also doubled up with 11 rebounds and 11 points. In 2023, Penn will challenge for the Ivy League championship if the big guys can start producing more. The Penn defense allows an average score of 68.4 PPG going into this matchup and they will aim to do a better job of not putting the opposition on the line in this game against Lafayette. In the Quakers’ first 4 games, they defeated John Jay 102-57, Bucknell 80-61, and Villanova 76-72. Penn stunned the Wildcats with an impressive 51.1% efficiency and 38 rebounds.
