The Mississippi Valley State Devils take on the UConn Huskies on Tuesday evening in Hartford, Connecticut to wrap up their road trip.
After losing their most recent match to Oklahoma by 39 points, MVSU is without a win on the year and is on a losing run that dates back to the previous campaign. Mississippi Valley State’s offensive performance has been abysmal; they average only 51.5 points per contest on 35.2 shots. The Devils’ defense has been completely destroyed this year; in their first two games, they have allowed 94 points each contest. Mississippi Valley State has been led by Rayquan Brown, who averages 15.5 points and leads the squad in rebounds with five per contest. Donovan Sanders has contributed 9.5 points per match so far this season, while Arecko Gipson remains the team’s second-leading scorer at 10.5 points per contest. Danny Washington leads the club in assists with 1.5 while averaging 2.5 points.
The UConn Huskies, who are ranked fifth in the country and have won both of their initial matches, will be back at home on the evening of Tuesday. This season, the Huskies offense has proved outstanding, hitting 54.7% of their shots and scoring 101 points per contest. The Huskies have played just as well on defense, allowing opponents to score only 59.5 points in the initial two matches of the year. With an average of 18.5 points per contest this year, Alex Karaban leads UConn’s scoring attack. With an average of 18 points, Tristan Newton is the squad’s second-leading scorer, while big man Donovan Clingan leads the team with 14 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. In addition to leading the group in assists with 5.5, Cam Spencer is among five players in double figures with 10 points.
