The Hampton Pirates are set to face off against the North Carolina A&T Aggies in a Coastal Athletic Association matchup at the Convocation Center this Monday evening. The Aggies have encountered difficulties after 2 consecutive losses, following their recent 67-63 defeat at home against the Drexel Dragons. On a similar boat, the Pirates have been enduring tough times as well, currently standing on a 7 game losing streak after their 73-61 home loss to the William & Mary Tribe last Thursday.
During North Carolina’s game, sophomore guard Landon Glasper, showcased his talents. In a span of 35 minutes, he contributed 21 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, and unfortunately 3 turnovers. Although their defense performed better than expected, there is still room for a plethora of improvement. Drexel managed to finish the match with a team shooting split of 48.3% from the field, 16.7% from beyond the arc, and 70.0% from the free throw line.
The Pirates’ shooting has been subpar, as they converted only 38% of their field goal attempts, 31.8% beyond the arc, and a total of 21 free throw attempts. Kyrese Millen, Hampton’s sophomore forward, was the sole shining light for the squad. He contributed a total of 22 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, and 1 steal in a total of 37 minutes of playtime. The defense limited the Tribe to a shooting percentage of 39.1% overall, 26.7% from deep, while allowing them 22 free throw attempts throughout the game. Sadly this was not enough to leave with a positive result.
After careful examination we believe this game will be an all out offensive attempt from both sides. Defense will seem like a second thought, with Hampton being the worst in the head to head. Overall North Carolina A&T are the favorites to win by a small margin.
