Creighton Analysis: They just won a double overtime game
When the 11-seed Oregon Ducks nearly upset the Creighton Bluejays, they proved that they were a team that could both survive and advance. With 5 minutes remaining, Creighton was down by 6, but they forced two overtimes in order to steal the victory. Four players for Creighton scored eighteen or more points during the game: Steven Ashworth topped the way with twenty-one points, Ryan Kalkbrenner added nineteen points and fourteen rebounds.
Three players stand out for Creighton, one on each side of the floor. Ryan Kalkbrenner, a 7’1 and 270-pound center in his senior year, is averaging 17.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
Tennessee Analysis: Dalton Knecht is playing lights out
Under head coach Rick Barnes, the Tennessee Volunteers have advanced to the Sweet 16 twice but have not advanced to the Elite 8. Tennessee wants to defeat Creighton in order to buck the trend and go forward. In the First Round, they dominated St. Peter’s, led by All-American Dalton Knecht, who scored 23 points. In the following round, he led the team in scoring again, ending with 18 points and 9 rebounds in the victory over Texas. For the Volunteers, senior guard Dalton Knecht is a pure scorer when he steps on the court. Knecht has the bounce to finish above the basket and uses his sharp jumper to score from all three levels. The native of Colorado averages 4.9 rebounds and a team-high 21.1 points per game.
