Gonzaga vs Kentucky Game Preview
The Gonzaga Bulldogs (17-6) will face the ranked seventeenth Kentucky Wildcats (16-6) at Rupp Arena on February 10. Follow this article for the best basketball analysis available.
Gonzaga Analysis: Being led by Anton Watson
With 20 points from Anton Watson and 25 points off the bench from Braden Huff, Gonzaga (17-6, 8-2 WCC) defeated Portland 96-64. However, defeating the superior teams has been the issue rather than bad teams. The Bulldogs lost to Saint Mary’s at home last weekend, and they still don’t have a Quad 1 victory on their record. This could be the 1st time in more than 20 years that they aren’t considered for the NCAA Tournament. This appears to be a difficult matchup for Gonzaga. Their depth against strong teams is severely limited, despite their defense’s recent near-perfect play. They also have a bad 3-point shooting defense. Ryan Nembhard and Nolan Hickman, the guards, will probably play the entire forty minutes and will need to have strong performances to stand a chance.
Kentucky Analysis: Antonio Reeves coming off 24 point game
The good news is that Kentucky (16-6, 6-4 SEC) presents a fantastic road opportunity for them. The week before, the Wildcats had lost 2 straight league games; however, they had defeated Vanderbilt 109-77 to recover. Rob Dillingham concluded with 20 points and 9 assists off the bench for the winning team, while Antonio Reeves scored 24 points. But, to put it mildly, Kentucky’s defense has been “shaky” at best. Gonzaga boasts a strong frontcourt in Watson and Graham Ike, but they have a history of giving up easy baskets. The more seasoned Bulldogs may have a chance if this ends in a shootout. In order for the Wildcats to prevail in Rupp Arena, Kentucky’s big men will need to perform well because the Bulldogs have some talented players down low.
