Game Preview

On Wednesday, December 20th at Footprint Center, the 4th ranked Arizona Wildcats (8-1) will take on the Alabama Crimson Tide (6-4) in an attempt to extend their seven-game winning streak at home.

Purdue has revealed the formula for defeating Arizona with a 92-84 victory against the formerly unbeaten Wildcats. Braden Smith and Fletcher Loyer combined to shoot 9 of 16 points from beyond the arc, setting a record for Arizona. This was part of an overall 41.7% 3-point shooting effort that allowed Arizona to hold on for the victory. Arizona is still very good even after the loss; they rank 3rd in defensive efficiency and among the top six in offensive efficiency according to KenPom. Just six of the schools in the country score more than 90 points per match, with the Wildcats scoring 92.9 points per contest. Arizona leads NCAA basketball via 21.9 assists per contest and is ranked 10th in overall rebounding. It has an impressive field goal percentage of 51.5%, while the defense gives up 45.1%, which is the 292nd-lowest percentage in the NCAA, to opponents.

Now for Alabama, who rank in the top 30 of the College in moneyball shooting at a percentage of 39.1% on slightly fewer than 28 tries per game. This made the Crimson Tide’s most recent game an absolute anomaly, as they lost 85-82 to eighth-ranked Creighton. Alabama’s poor shooting performance from distance, which stood at 4-for-22, was an 18.2% percentage. In contrast, during their matchup with Purdue, who was ranked 4th at the time, which ended in a 92-86 defeat, they shot an incredible 19-for-46 (a stunning 41.3%) from behind the arc. On Wednesday, check out Alabama to determine the range. Arizona has such a strong offensive lineup, yet their 3-point shooting ought to keep it interesting.
