Game Preview

Game Preview

Tuesday’s Champions Classic NCAA basketball game between the Kentucky Wildcats and Kansas Jayhawks will take place at the United Center.

Kentucky appears to be a true wild card, but they have extremely high hopes for their current campaign. Kentucky managed to win 86-46 over New Mexico State two games back. Kentucky scored 81 points to defeat Texas A&M Corpus Christi by 20 points in the most recent matchup. Kentucky only used seven players in the most recent game, so there are definitely some worries regarding the bench. Tre Mitchell led Kentucky with 8 boards and 8 points in the game. With 21 points as well, Antonio Reeves will need to increase the lead in this one. Kentucky, the 17th team in the country, is 2-0 to start the season. According to the SEC preseason poll, the Wildcats were rated #4. In the rankings, they were just behind Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Arkansas. Freshman Justin Edwards was selected for the preseason All-SEC First Team. The preseason conference second team also included fifth-year senior Antonio Reeves.

The Kansas Jayhawks were dominant in their initial two matches and are favored by many to capture the National Championship. They defeated the Manhattan Jaspers 99-61 in the final game after defeating NC Central 99-56 in the initial match. They led Manhattan 44-19 at the break and did not look back en route to the resounding triumph. Hunter Dickinson topped the Jayhawks with 8 rebounds, a pair of assists, and a total of 18 points. Five different players scored ten points or more in the end. With a 2-0 record, Kansas is the top team in the country. The Jayhawks have defeated Manhattan and North Carolina Central in back-to-back games to start the season. The poll also ranked Kansas the preseason No. 1 team in the Big 12 Conference. Hunter Dickinson was selected to the All-American squad for the preseason. This year, Johnny Furphhy, Kevin McCullar Jr., and Dejuan Harris Jr. will all be important players for Kansas.
