Game Preview
On Wednesday evening, the Pacific Tigers (5-8) and the Cal State Fullerton Titans (6-5) will square off in a non-conference matchup at Titan Gym in Fullerton, California.
The defense was not at its best in Fullerton’s most recent game, an 88-65 away defeat to Boise State, after only allowing an average of 55.3 points per game during their four-game winning run. The Titans enabled the Broncos to convert on shots of 49.3% and 44.4% from deep, outscored them by 29 points during the opening half, and only managed 40.7% and 33.3% of their shots from beyond the 3-point arc. With 19 points from 6-14 shooting, Max Jones topped his team in the defeat, followed by D.J. Brewton with 16 points from 6-16 shooting. The Titans are scoring 68 points per game on the season while allowing 68.4 points per game on average. Jones leads the club in scoring (17 points per game on average), but is just hitting 39.9% from the field this season, and has not shot better than 42.9% in his last two games while scoring 27 points.
Pacific’s recent 68-46 home victory over Stanislaus State ended their losing streak, so it was fortunate that they played against a non-D1 team. While shooting only 43.9% overall and 37% from 3-point range, the Tigers did play excellent defense, limiting the Warriors to 31% overall and 16.7% from beyond the arc. Nick Blake scored 14 points, more than any other starter, and Tyler Beard added 14 of his own off the bench. The Tigers are among the lowest-scoring teams in the country this season, averaging 64.4 points per game while allowing 74.9 points per game on average. Blake, with 11.5 points per game, has only participated in two games this season; in his debut, he tallied 9 points on 16.7% shooting before going on to score 14 points in his most recent game.
