The Myrtle Beach Invitational between the Wichita State Shockers and the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will take place on the afternoon of Thursday at the HTC Center in Conway, South Carolina. Coastal Carolina has participated in just a single match this season, whereas Wichita State has won 3 in a row.
With the least amount of travel to cover, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are primed to compete in Thursday’s Myrtle Beach Classic. They have the smallest number of games played, entering the tournament with a solitary 1-0 record. At HTC Center, the Chanticleers defeated Piedmont University 88–86 in front of their home crowd. Kevin Easley led Coastal with 20 points during the victory. A total of 4 players for the Chanticleers scored in double figures overall: Jon Sanders ended with 12, Jacob Meyer scored 16 points, and Kylan Blackmon scored 13. John Okiako, who has 9 points as well as 13 rebounds during the victory, is another important transfer portal addition for the squad this season, along with Easley.
With a 3-0 start to the 2023–24 campaign, Wichita State has made a good impression early on. Following a 9-year run of qualifying for the NCAA Tournament, the Shockers are eager to return with this campaign after falling out in consecutive years with a 17–15 record. This campaign, Paul Mills, the newest head coach of the Shockers, will have a number of new players to integrate into his coaching philosophy. They defeated Friends 95-65 to cap off their three-game homestand to start the season. Colby Rogers, one of the the group’s returning players from the previous campaign, took the lead early on, scoring 18 points in only 24 minutes of action. Rogers made 6 of his 12 attempts, 4 of which were 3-pointers. Xavier Bell finished with 15 points after having a fantastic night, making 7 of 8 field goals.
