Today’s college basketball slate brings plenty of thrilling encounters around the nation, and we are taking a closer look at the non-conference clash between the UC Irvine Anteaters and the Santa Clara Broncos. The Anteaters managed to stop a two-game slide this past weekend, while the Broncos took down the Portland State Vikings on Tuesday.
After falling down to San Diego State 72-69 and to Fresno State 80-66, UC Irvine turned things around and defeated the South Dakota Coyotes 83-71 as road favorites. They managed to shoot 51.7% from the field and went 9-for-21 on the three-pointer line while boasting a 13/9 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Now looking at the Santa Clara Broncos, they got their five-game winning streak snapped when they lost to the San Jose State Spartans this past Saturday, though they were able to defeat the Portland State Vikings 78-75 last Tuesday. The Broncos couldn’t cover a 9.5-point spread and had to come back from a 12-point deficit, making only 41.4% of their field goals and 22 of their 27 free throws.
The Broncos had just ten assists against the Portland State Vikings and turned the ball over a whopping 15 times. That said, the Broncos managed to outrebound Portland State 44-33, which is decent to say the least. Sophomore Carlos Stewart contributed a season-high 24 points, while fellow teammate G Brandin Podziemski scored 17 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals.
