Game Preview
On November 27 the Minnesota Vikings (6-5) and the Chicago Bears (3-8) square off as NFC North rivals at U.S. Bank Stadium.
The Chicago Bears have lost seven of their last ten games; they need a victory. After missing six games due to a thumb injury, Chicago’s starting quarterback Justin Fields returned to the field last game at Detroit. The offense appeared much stronger, but the Bears lost 31–26 as a result of late errors, which have been a defining characteristic of Matt Eberflus‘ coaching career. The Bears were outscored 17–6 in the fourth quarter after giving up 2 scores and a safety in the last three minutes of their game. With eighteen carries for 104 yards, Fields was the greatest running threat he has been all season. The fact that he didn’t turn the ball over was great as this has been problematic. With his primary quarterback back, receiver DJ Moore demonstrated his return to Pro Bowl form by catching seven receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown. Justin Fields has completed 1,370 yards, twelve touchdowns, and six interceptions on 62.7% of his passes.
The NFL-high 5-game winning streak for Minnesota ended last game in a late 21-20 loss in Denver. With just over a minute remaining, the Vikings were unable to get into position for a winning field goal, despite Josh Dobbs‘ outstanding performance in both passing and running for a touchdown. In addition to throwing for 221 yards, Dobbs ran a 10-yard scoring run. Alexander Mattison ran for a game-high 81 yards, and tight end T.J. Hockenson grabbed four receptions for 55 yards. Superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson was not activated off injured reserve despite being eligible to do so. It’s believed 50/50 for this week as well. It has been said by him and Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell that Jefferson won’t play again until he is fully recovered.
