Game Preview

With a 6-1 record, the Philadelphia Eagles lead the NFC in solitary. They take on the 3-4 Washington Commanders on Sunday for their second meeting in as many months. Last Sunday evening, Philadelphia trounced the Dolphins, one of the best sides within the AFC, 31-17, while Washington suffered a 14-7 loss by the New York Giants. In their most recent meeting, which took place in Week 4, the Eagles defeated the Commanders in overtime, 34-31.

There was a time when the Commanders started the season 2-0 after the first two weeks. For fans of Washington, those were far better days. The Commanders have now lost to the Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears, New York Giants, and Eagles, going 1-4. Washington’s offensive line performance proved to be its main problem. After 7 weeks, QB Sam Howell has already been sacked forty times, which is a league-high amount of instances. He is on track to surpass David Carr’s mark of 76 sacks received during a single campaign in the NFL. The Commanders will now face Haason Reddick, Josh Sweat, Jalen Carter, and this fierce Eagles front after giving up 6 sacks against the Giants in Week 7.

In Week 7, Philadelphia’s season resumed with a commanding 31-17 victory over the Miami Dolphins. The league’s most dynamic offense only allowed a single touchdown to be scored against its defense, which is now beginning to show signs of health. On Monday, the defense acquired safety Kevin Byard, a two-time All-Pro, in a transaction. Look for A.J. Brown, the receiver for Philadelphia. Brown tied the NFL record established by legendary Detroit Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson in Week 7 with 10 receptions for 137 yards and a score. It was Brown’s sixth consecutive game with over 125 yards.

The Eagles want to capitalize on their victory against the Dolphins on Sunday night, but QB Jalen Hurts’ health is a question. On Sunday night, Hurts was clearly limping, and in the second half, he put on a brace for his knee. If Hurts is unable to play against the Commanders, Marcus Mariota will be the Eagles alternative.
