After a perfect start to the 2023-24 season, Brentford suffered its first loss last weekend. Hopefully, they can get back on track this week. The Bees got off to a great start this season, going undefeated through their first four games, but they suffered their first loss of the year on Saturday, falling to Newcastle by a score of 1-0.
Brentford were quite unfortunate to lose that game, as the penalty that allowed Newcastle to score the winning goal looked extremely harsh. It was Brentford’s first loss in eight games, snapping the second-longest active unbeaten record in the Premier League. This weekend, however, there’s hope for a turnaround. Though they will face a lot of pressure as they try to rebound from a slow start to the season.
Everton have yet to win a league game this season, and manager Sean Dyche is under mounting pressure as a result. The Toffees are currently five games into the new season without suffering their first loss, but scoring only twice in those games.
Four of Everton’s five matches this season have ended in defeat, most recently last weekend’s 2-0 home loss to Arsenal. After defending deep into their own half for the majority of the encounter, the Toffees looked completely uninspired in the final third. They appeared to be waiting for the Gunners to break them down.
The most recent meeting between these two teams ended in a 1-0 victory for Everton at Goodison Park. Brentford had a three-game winning streak snapped by that victory. Last season, a 1-1 draw was recorded in this precise matchup.
