On November 25, Burnley will host West Ham at Turf Moor in hopes of securing their first Premier League home victory of the year.
Burnley is currently bottom of the Premier League standings after just four games played, despite Vincent Kompany’s team’s stellar performance in the Championship the year prior. Despite the young Belgian manager’s impressive performance in winning the Championship the previous season, it appears that his inexperience in the Premier League is too much to take on. The poor defense and lack of precision in front of the rival goaltender are two very troubling aspects of Burnley’s game. It will be extremely difficult to improve on a terrible campaign that saw only 9 goals scored in 12 games and 30 goals against. But Burnley still has a strong chance of staying in the league by the conclusion of the season, given that other teams are also struggling to stay out of the bottom of the standings.
Before the start of the international break, West Ham ended a run of three straight League losses with a late goal to upset Nottingham Forest. Even though much of the early-season euphoria has dissipated, David Moyes’ team sits 9th in the table heading into this game. Having lost four of the previous six games, the visitors don’t like playing away from home. The seasoned Scottish boss, whose side has conceded nine goals in their last three away games, will be trying to strengthen their defense. Michail Antonio will miss games for West Ham, although the problem is not as serious as initially thought. While competing for Jamaica over the international break, the striker sustained damage to his medial knee ligament. This may mean he is out of the game far into 2024, but Antonio’s recovery should only take a few weeks. Twelve goals more than Burnley, West Ham has netted a total of 21 strikes in the Premier League thus far.
