Following the international break, Aston Villa will want to go back to winning ways this weekend. On Saturday, Crystal Palace will go to try and win for the third time this season.
Before the season began, many people had high hopes for Aston Villa because of Unai Emery. Some even thought that they may make a surprise run at a Champions League berth. After being blown out by Liverpool in their most recent matches before the international break, Villa will need to bounce back when they play in front of their home fans on Saturday.
Three minutes into their match at Anfield, the West Midlands club found themselves behind. After only 22 minutes, they were already behind 2-0, and only ten minutes into the second half, Liverpool added a third.
In spite of having 36 percent of the ball, Villa only managed three shots on goal. The team’s outstanding home record under Emery, however, may make them the favorites to win this weekend’s matchup.
Crystal Palace fans should be pleased with their team’s early success; they are now sixth in the league. The Eagles have a chance to finish the weekend in the Premier League’s top four if they can pull off a victory this Saturday.
Palace have won their last two Premier League games and recorded their second victory of the season with a 3-2 victory over Wolves just before the international break. In that win, Odsonne Edouard scored twice, while Eberechi Eze scored once.
Last year, Villa won 1-0 at home but lost 3-1 at Selhurst Park. Villa’s 2-1 victory at Selhurst Park in November 2021 was the only away win in the 10 Premier League meetings between these teams.
Crystal Palace has had a strong start to the new season, and they pose a threat to Villa Park thanks to their skill on the counterattack. After a disappointing performance against Liverpool before the international break, Villa will be under pressure to show up this weekend.
