On Sunday, Chelsea will play their first game since the international break, hosting Bournemouth as they strive for their second win of the season. Mauricio Pochettino has had a difficult start to the season, having won only one of his first four matches.
As a result of that result, the Blues are currently in 12th place, but with a win this weekend, they may move up as high as seventh place by the end of the week.
After a shocking 1-0 home loss to Nottingham Forest before the international break, Pochettino will be looking for a far better showing from his team this weekend. Despite controlling 77% of the ball during that home game, the Blues were only able to fire off two shots on goal.
Bournemouth, who are currently 16th in the league, have yet to record their first win of the season. They have only won two of their four matches this season, but a victory on Sunday would put them in first place.
The 2-2 draw against Brentford in their last game before the international break should give the Cherries some much-needed optimism. After David Brooks put the visitors up 2-1 with around ten minutes left, they probably felt they deserved all three points. But they couldn’t maintain their lead and win the league opener.
After losing three straight to their opponents, Chelsea has won the previous two meetings between the two teams. Their most recent victory in this series came in May at the Vitality. That victory, though, stands as their sole triumph in three prior trips to Bournemouth.
Although Chelsea’s road record versus Bournemouth isn’t great, they appear to have a great shot at three points this weekend. On Sunday, the Blues could be able to win it, but it’s also possible that both teams will score.
