But in the end, Jordan Ayew‘s 75th-minute expulsion proved fatal as the Eagles lost 2-1 after conceding twice in the last few minutes. Roy Hodgson, the manager, is starting to feel the heat after his team has only managed to win five of the last 45 games. Despite this, Palace is still seven points above the drop zone and knows that a victory could propel them to as far as 11th place. Although it is unlikely that Palace supporters will have much success over the holiday season given that Saturday’s matchup at Man City is followed by challenging top-flight matches with Brighton & Hove Albion, Chelsea, Brentford, and Arsenal, the Eagles have a track record of bringing off upsets, so they have cause for optimism going into the Etihad.
