Last Saturday, Man United cruised to a 1-0 victory at Turf Moor thanks in large part to a lackluster performance from the Clarets in the last third of the field. This weekend’s performance must have greater energy in the final period.
For the fifth time in the last nine years, Burnley has gotten off to a sluggish start in the Premier League, failing to win any of their first five games. In Premier League history, only Newcastle has started the season with a perfect record more often.
With four consecutive victories over the Clarets, Newcastle has a strong recent record in this matchup. That’s a remarkable turnaround, since they’d only won four of the 16 league meetings between the teams before. However, in their last nine trips to Newcastle, Burnley has failed to secure a victory.
