Back in February 2021, Mexico’s Mauricio “Bronco” Lara delivered a severe beating and ninth round knockout of undefeated Josh Warrington, many assumed that the career of the star of this great away performance would be catapulted to continued big fights and even stardom. As a consolation for this latest setback, Lara will have one more shooting bout headlining a Matchroom Boxing event from his home country, specifically from the Plaza de Toros in Mexico City, Mexico. His opponent will be Colombian Jose “El General” Sanmartin, who is not exactly the most fortunate boxer either.
Defeats by questionable decision, a controversial disqualification against Tomas Rojas and a knockout in the last round of a meritorious performance against Emanuel Navarrete are some of the results that have marked Sanmartin’s career. Even so, after a win in Mexico against David Carmona last year, Sanmartin enters this featherweight bout in which, depending on his performance, he could get closer to more relevant fights.
