Arnold Barboza Jr vs Sean McComb Game Preview

Super-lightweight champion Arnold Barboza Jr. faces Sean McComb on April 20 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Keep reading this article to find the most in-depth boxing analysis about this coming fight.

Arnold Barboza Jr Analysis: Only 10 wins by KO

Unlike his opponent, Arnold had a modest amateur career with few notable accomplishments until becoming pro in 2013. After 29 fights, he still hasn’t lost, but he has only had 10 knockouts. He is undoubtedly not the strongest super lightweight in the world, but he is a very smart combatant nonetheless. Barboza Jr. is currently 32 years old, and it is possible that he squandered his prime years due to unneeded opponents. After all, it was expected ten years ago that he would win a world championship before he turned thirty. And yet, he has never faced top competition, with the exception of Jose Pedraza, the former IBF champion, whom he defeated by decision around a year ago.

Sean McComb Analysis: He’s lost once

Sean, in contrast to his opponent, fought for years as an amateur before making his professional debut in 2018. Despite his delayed start, he has now fought 19 times and prevailed in 18 of them. Similar to Barboza, Sean isn’t well-known for his strength. Of 11 opponents, he only managed to knock out 5. When they squared up for the Commonwealth Lightweight title in 2021, Sean lost to Gavin Gwynne for the first time. He went on to win 7 straight fights after that, and in 2022 he took home the WBO European super lightweight title. It’s safe to assume that McComb had not faced any of the top-ranked boxers prior to Barboza, and this will be his first fight outside of the United Kingdom in six years.
